WHAT IS VITA?
Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), VITA provides free income tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with a household income of $60,000 a year or less, age 60 and older, disabilities, and limited English proficiency. VITA volunteers can help obtain all eligible tax credits and deductions, especially the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Education Tax Credits and Child Care tax deductions.
The Beaufort County United Way is recruiting volunteers who are interested in helping improve financial mobility and security in our community.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
As a VITA Volunteer, you will:
- Receive IRS-certified training online.
- Volunteer as your schedule allows.
- Develop skills to boost your resume.
- Gain valuable marketable job skills & experience.
- Engage in meaningful service.
VITA Volunteer Positions Include:
TAX CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Site Coordinator: Serves as primary site resource. Must have excellent organizational and leadership skills. Develops and maintains volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage, supplies and equipment.
Tax Preparer: Provides free tax return preparation and electronic filing or eligible taxpayers. Must be fully tax law certified.
Quality Reviewer: Reviews tax returns completed by volunteer tax preparers, ensuring that tax returns are error free. Must be tax law certified at the Intermediate level.
FREE IRS VITA Certification Training Provided.
NO TAX CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Greeter/Screener: Greets everyone visiting the site to create a pleasant atmosphere. Screens taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need and confirm they have the necessary tax return documents.
Interpreter: Provides free language interpreter services to taxpayers who are not fluent in English. Basic tax knowledge is helpful, but not required.
Computer Specialists/Troubleshooter: Has working knowledge of personal computers, software and communications systems.
